Creativity was always encouraged in Marilyn’s family home where her father, Albert James Arthur, was a prolific writer of short stories, poetry, music and lyrics.
‘Danger at Devil’s Cove’ was originally told by Marilyn to entertain her grandchildren on the long drive to and from the family’s holiday home at the top of the Coromandel Peninsula.
The children found the story so captivating that granddaughter, Nicole, pleaded for it to be put into writing.
“When I joined a writers’ group it was the first project I tackled and was encouraged by members of the group to complete my first book,” said Marilyn. “I am also working on an adult crime fiction novel and would like to complete a trilogy of the adventures of Josephine Mary Cresswell.
“As 2009 was the 10th anniversary of my parents’ death I wanted to honour them with the publication of my first children’s book.”
Professional assistance from friends and colleagues together with funds generously contributed by Creative Communities Scheme – Manukau City helped Marilyn realise that goal and the book was launched in December 2009 under the banner of the Arthur family name.
