Walter’s Story
Children's Books, HistoryAuthor: Claire Bunt
ISBN: 9780994108449
Walter, born post World War II, grew up and was educated in the east side of a divided Germany, the German Democratic Republic. He had known no other way of schooling.
For his older brother the indoctrination and, at that time, the poor teaching standards of the communist teachers imported from Russia, was galling.
Little did Walter understand how much their lives were being scrutinised by both the Stasi secret police and the state police. Walter’s father had been falsely imprisoned twice by the state police and had escaped to the Federal Republic of Germany in the west.
Would Walter’s blind adoration of all things Russian jeopardise his family’s bid to escape a year later?
With the writing of this book, Claire has found a way to raise funds for UNICEF, a charity she has supported since 1960.
