I was born in Patea in 1942 when my family were living in Kakaramea and married my Lower Hutt-born husband Colin Peck, in Hamilton in 1964. After our marriage, Colin and I lived in Upper Hutt for six years, before returning to Hamilton in 1970 with our two children, both of whom now live in Auckland. Tony and Nikki have two children, Ryan and Hayley, while Helen and Paul McKinley also have two children, Cameron and Emerson. Sadly, Paul died unexpectedly of a heart attack on 25 February 2024, just a month after turning 56. Colin also passed away in 2024 on 14 December, one week before his 86th birthday. Before retiring, I worked for 27 years at Wintec in Hamilton: 15 as Secretary to the Head of Science and 12 as PA to the Head of Sport Science. Since retiring, I have collaborated with my cousin, Ann Moody, to produce a book on our Uncle Andrew Cadman’s WW1 service, during which he won a Military Medal for bravery, but died of Spanish ‘flu before receiving it. In addition, I have self-published a book on Healthy living and a book of poetry. I also have several other family histories in the pipeline which I hope to publish at some stage.

The story of Jessie and Alec Cadman and their Family
We all have choices in life and the choices we make determine the people we become. You can’t control how you were brought up or the genes you inherit, but you can control how you react to situations.
This is the story of my parents. It shows how my mother, through resilience and strength of character and the help of her children as they grew older, overcame the trials and tribulations of life with an alcoholic husband, to successfully bring up nine children.
