WRITER AND AUTHOR Kingsley Field began as a journalist on the Waikato Times in Hamilton in 1965 after growing up on an Otorohanga dairy farm, working there with his father for several years. He has always had an interest in hunting, tramping, and the wildlife around him, and has written extensively on these topics for almost 50 years. Throughout his career as a journalist he travelled in Asia, Europe, North America and England, and worked in Adelaide for two years.  He was chief sub-editor on the Waikato Times for five years, spent four years as editor of the Hauraki Herald group of community newspapers, and was Waikato bureau chief for the New Zealand Herald for eight years.

Since 1997 he has been a freelance writer, and has so far published 14 books, including three on hunting, two military histories, and seven personal, family or corporate histories. He is currently working on three further personal and family histories, a comprehensive history of the Waipa District, and two novels, He has been a book reviewer for more than 40 years, and was also a journalism tutor at Wintec in Hamilton.
